This past weekend Matt, Dean and I have another set of special visitors. My parents came to visit and see Mr. Dean for a few days. They arrived Saturday morning. After a few hours of quiet time we set out for lunch and the State Fair! Matt and I planned lunch with the Cherry family. Granny Glenda and Paw Paw Bill have become a huge part of our Ft. Worth life and we were eager to have our parents spend some time with people so special to us. After lunch we set out for one of the most famous fairs in the nation – the Texas State Fair! Our afternoon was filled with the smells of yummy friend goodness – corn dogs, funnel cakes, fried butter…., the sounds of midway games and happy people and the sights of Big Tex, and new Camaros. After several hours of fair fun we headed home from the cold to enjoy warm bowls of chili.
My parents headed back to Houston on Sunday afternoon after a nice, relaxing morning. Their visit was way too short but such a treat. We look forward to the next time they make the drive north.
On this day 3 years ago, at this exact time Matt and I made promises to each other that we will keep for the rest of our lives. Although sometimes we aren’t as good at honoring those promises than we are at others I am so thankful that Matt chose to marry me 3 years ago. In three years I have been pushed to grow and change in ways I never thought I could. I am thankful that I get to wake up next to my best friend every morning and end my day with conversations over dinner. In three years we have moved three times, traveled, obtained degrees, started new jobs, and had a son. I’m having a blast with this man and I can’t wait to see what the next years are going to bring.
Here we are at our rehearsal dinner – 3 years ago
A poor pic from our wedding day. For some reason we didn’t get too many with our own cameras.
Matt’s college roommate is moving to Seattle. We had the pleasuring of hosting David and his girlfriend, Janelle, for 2 nights while they make their journey across the U.S. It was so nice to see them and catch up on all that life has brought these friends in the past 2 years. David and Janelle were traveling with their dog, cats and 3 kittens. Dean enjoyed his first encounters with the kittens and Jiff loved having a playmate. Janelle was also an excellent nanny for Dean. I felt like we had a second set of parents on hand to help. Thanks for stopping by Janelle and David. We can’t wait to see you again soon.
For Matt’s big 3-0 I flew to California for a very quick weekend. I arrived Friday night and few back to Houston on Sunday morning. I think the entire trip was 36 hours. We had a great time celebrating Matt’s big birthday. Friday night we ate dinner and I got to see my kitties! I have been missing them almost as much as Matt! Saturday I treated Matt to the movies (his favorite thing) and then we had a wonderful dinner at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. It was such a short weekend but such a treat to be able to enjoy a weekend with each other. Matt welcomed his new era of life and I’m having a great time teasing him about being an old man!
I am moving home! Sadly, Matt and I have decided to separate…but only for about 3 months! We set out on July 4th for the LONG drive to Humble. Since we knew the drive was going to be long and our last bit of time together so we planned a few fun stops along the way. On the evening of July 4th we arrived in Las Vegas, NV. I had never been to Vegas so Matt saw that I enjoyed the ultimate Vegas experience in 10 hours! We ate, walked the strip, and took in all the lights of Vegas in one evening. Unfortunately we didn’t have more time to spend but I do look forward to visiting again, and doing some shopping and maybe even trying my hand at becoming a Vegas show girl! We got up EARLY on the 5th and began the 2nd leg of our trip. We visited Hoover Dam on our way to Albuquerque, NM. Hoover Dam was a beautiful site to see, the water was so green, amazing! We had a nice stay in Albuquerque and set out for Austin the next morning. We enjoyed driving through Texas…Fredericksburg and Austin are some of our favorite places; we knew we were home when we got to the hill country! Matt’s brother, Adam, and his girlfriend, Genie, were nice enough to host us for our 3rd night of the trip. We had a blast hanging out with Adam and Genie in their new apartment. We ate at Chuy’s for our first night back in Texas…I think we were both in heaven. In addition to getting to see Adam and Genie we enjoyed breakfast with one of my best friends Myra, her husband Patrick and their very precious daughter Morgandy. It was so much fun to see Myra, enjoy Patrick’s waffles and watch Morgandy show Matt and me all that she has learned in the last few months. After visiting with Myra and Patrick we spent more time with Adam and Genie. We managed to fit in BBQ at Matt’s favorite restaurant, Rudy’s and a time of shopping at the Arboretum. Later that afternoon we headed for Houston, the 2,000 mile trip was almost over! Home was such a great site after our long drive but it was sad to know that Matt and I would soon be leaving each other’s sides. The countdown has begun…its only 3 months! We’re going to be utilizing our airline miles…I feel like we’re dating again. J
