Ahoy Matey

Mason Spencer Hopkins was born on March 12th at 7:53 AM. He weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces and was 19.25 inches long. Matt and I were blessed with the opportunity to head to Houston for the amazing event. After arriving late Thursday night Matt traveled with his parents to the hospital early Friday morning. I don’t think anyone got much sleep but everyone was so excited it didn’t seem to matter. Dean and I happily stayed behind at Honey and Pops house enjoying a nice quiet morning. I didn’t think Dean would be too interested in the hospital waiting game and I’m sure they frown on toddlers running up and down the halls of the maternity ward yelling and screaming. Grandma and Grandaddy came over to play with Dean while we waited for the great news. We enjoyed birthday cupcakes, a walk, and lots of hugs and kisses. An impromptu happy hour was awaiting the Hopkins family when they returned from the hospital Friday afternoon. I had invited my family over to see Dean, the Barrs came over with Emma and we had a few great moments toasting the birth of a new precious angle. It couldn’t have been more perfectly unplanned.

As if Honey and Pops weren’t tired enough they volunteered to watch Dean for the night so that Matt and I could enjoy dinner with our dear friends Jana and Derek. It was great to spend an evening at their home cooking burgers and having adult conversation. Thanks for hosting us guys!

On Saturday Grandmother and Papa were nice enough to watch DT so that I could go visit Mr. Mason with Matt. He was precious, tiny, and smelled just like a new baby should. Genie and Adam were troopers and graciously welcomed visitors and passed her new bundle around happily sharing him with all who came to adore.

We are so excited that MSH has become part of our lives and can’t wait for the many adventures of Dean and Mason. Watch out world….here they come!

And it snows again!

We invited our friends Linsey and Steven over for dinner and a very serious Cranium rematch. The boys won during our last gathering and Linsey and I were determined to come out on time the second time around. Before we started our dinner snow began to fall! It was absolutely crazy. Here we are in March and experience the 4th snowfall of the year. Thankfully the ground was too warm for it to stick but it did provide a beautiful backdrop to our heated game playing.

Linsey and Steven are proud parents of Sammy Schafer the incredible Mini Dachshund. Sammy came to visit and play with Jiff while we enjoyed our evening. Although there was a bit of a turf war between the dog I think it worked out in the end. Linsey brought Sammy’s house in case we needed to put him away at any point in the evening. Dean thought Sammy’s house was extremely fun and entertained himself by playing with the cage. Who needs toys, right?

I should have you know that the girls did win this round and we will be scheduling the final battle soon. Boys vs. Girls….I know you’re all dying to hear the outcome! Until Then!

First Fever

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:59 pm by winz

Dean greeted this rainy Monday morning with his first fever. I personally am amazed that he has made it this long with out a fever considering the number of illness’ and ear infections he has had. I just thought he was one of those kids who didn’t run fever. I was wrong.

He woke up early this morning crying, never a good sign. I assumed he was warm from being covered up and moved on about our morning business. He drank his milk, cuddled and let me change his diaper. I offered him breakfast and he wouldn’t eat a bite (insert flashbacks of stomach virus here). I thought maybe he was sleepy and hoped he wasnt’ sick. I put him back to bed and He went back to sleep! Hooray, I could get dressed in peace. At 7:15 AM I had to wake him up or we would be late to school. We started the process all over again, more rocking and cuddling – that’s all Dean wanted to do. I’m still clueless to the fact that my baby is burning up. When I went to get him dressed I through, “hum, you are still pretty warm. Maybe we should check your temp.”. Duh Mom! It’s about time. The thermometer showed an average temp of 102.5. Poor guy, he was really sick!

The PJs went back on and Mommy got to stay home and continue the cuddling with her little fire ball. A trip to the doctors office didn’t reveal anything except for pressure in the right ear. The doc said it might be the cause of the fever but we are playing the watch and see game. Thankfully DT is a great patient and has slept most of the day. Here’s to hoping he’ll feel better tomorrow.

Until Then!
