Ravioli…It’s What’s For Dinner!
I think he liked it!
Where the Hopkins Family Shares Stuff
We celebrated Matt’s 32nd birthday on August 26th. We had planned to celebrate with dinner over the weekend but Dean, Ronny, Carla and I surprised Matt with presents and dinner on his actual birth date.
We also enjoyed a sushi dinner & movie on Saturday while Dean played at Glenda and Bills house. I think Matt enjoyed his special day.
My first two weeks back at work were pretty brutal. I am so glad the students are back! Here’s how I survived the THOUSANDS of schedule changes…
A little Diet Coke (with Caffeine) and lemon drops – Thanks Glenda for bringing me the good ones! Oh, and the reality check of my personal email every now and then.

Dean and I are back in the swing of things with school is back in session. Dean is loving his time in the infant 2 class at the ECDC. There are 7 other “students” in his class many of whom he went to school with last year.
I am thankful to return to the same position at CHHS for a second year. It’s been 3 years since I returned to the same position for a second time. I have such a homey feeling when I walk into CHHS. I love the ladies in the counseling office and feel so blessed to be in such a wonderful environment.
Here are our first day of school pictures:
To kick off the school year CHHS hosts a pep rally the Saturday night before school begins. I was eager to take Dean to his first pep rally and for Matt to see my students in action. We were lucky enough to enjoy the event with a fellow counselor, Lindsey, and her husband Steven. When we got to the school we were also able meet up with the McLaren’s. Dean enjoyed his first rally experience with his friend Gavin. We are looking forward to a great football and volleyball season! Hopefully we’ll be able to attend some Friday night games. Go Panthers!
Before the school year stated we decided to make one last trip to Humble. I had Friday off so we took advantage of leaving early Friday morning and stopping at Granny & Pops for breakfast. We had a great time visiting, eating and watching Dean play. Dean, Matt and Pop spent time outside feeding the deer and learning about wild animals. I think Dean picked up a thing or two. After visiting with G & P we headed to Humble. Lesley was hosting a Southern Living party so we stopped by to help her get ready. Dean and Emma enjoyed playing with princess’ and might have made more of a mess in the clean house than intended. The SL party was a success too. I managed to purchase a much needed paper towel holder and win Matt a prize too!
On Saturday Dean and I watched Morgan’s final T-ball game. If you’ve never watched a team of 4 year olds play T-ball you should! It was quite a site. I think sometimes the little boys thought they were tackling the ball instead of catching it! After the awards ceremony we enjoyed a BIG family lunch at Red Robbin (yum)! All of the kids were so good. I was quite amazed at their ability to sit through a dinner and keep themselves entertained. The fact that they sat us at a long banquet bench might have helped – they could move around the table without getting down. Way to go guys!
Honey and Pops returned from Rome on Saturday night. We sent Dean Thomas and his chauffeurs to pick them up from the airport. I think the sight of Dean helped ease the transition back to the real world! They also came bearing great Italian gifts!
It was nice to get to visit home before the school year got too hectic. We will venture home again on Labor Day. I’m already looking forward to our next road trip!
Dean has been hanging out on all fours for a few weeks now. He’s not in any hurry to start cruising but sure enjoys faking Mom and Dad out! He has also realized that pulling up may be more fun that crawling. He is working hard, pulling up on anything he can. Although he can’t completely stand up yet he is getting close. I have been teaching Dean how to go from lying down to sitting as well. Today, during “nap time” he was finally able to get all the sitting up pieces together. As you can see from the video he was quite proud of his accomplishment!

Matt and I were fortunate enough to have lots of visitors this summer. We were also able to spend a few evenings with friends who are here in the Metroplex. While Dean was away at Camp Grandmas we met up with Courtney and Craig Peoples for a wonderful Mexican food experience. Matt and I had not eaten at Monica’s – it was delicious and it was so nice to see our friends – it had been way too long!
We were also able to have Roxy and Oren over for dinner and games. Oren fell in love with Gig and Ags and Roxy had the opportunity to play with Dean.
And to cap off our summer fun Jana and Derek came up for a weekend. We spent the majority of our weekend at home relaxing, playing games and eating. We did venture out (once) for lunch on Saturday to Joe T. Garcia’s (more eating). We enjoyed the outdoor eating experience, loved the chips and salsa and our Mexican entrees. Matt and I were so glad they came to visit. It was a wonderful weekend, one we can’t wait to do again. Maybe when the Eagles play the Cowboys???
We are so thankful for our friends!
