TAKS Complete

Posted in Ft. Worth Life, Work events at 7:56 pm by winz

Today was the last day of TAKS testing for CHHS! Praise the Lord! We have finished another year. Although my commitment to testing wasn’t as great as some, it’s still nice to have the stress behind us.

TAKS testing at the high school level brings a whole new dimension of stress for students. They must pass this test at the 11th grade level in order to graduate – no pressure huh? Most students pass with flying colors but there are some who struggle to pass and have to work very hard to achieve success. Some of the students who were testing today in efforts to pass their exam so they could graduate in June. It’s those students my heart went out to today. When I walked into their testing room you could feel the tension as they worked problem after problem praying for a passing score. I’m thankful testing is over but the stress will continue for those seniors until they receive their scores.

We can scratch TAKS off our “list of things to do” and take one step closer to the end of the school year. 5 more weeks!

The 9th grade Mathematics test from this morning. Buckets-o-fun!!!

Super sized

Posted in Dean Thomas at 9:36 pm by winz

Matt and I are so thankful that Dean has been sleeping so well but, we are not thankful for the wet greeting we receive from him each morning. It seems that no matter what we do Dean’s diaper leaks during the night. We have developed an unfortunate morning ritual of baths and sheet changes. My friend Miranda suggested we switch him to a larger size diaper at night for a more adsorbent option. The size 3 diapers are SO big and look a little silly on our little guy. We just had to share! Here’s hoping we have a dry baby in the morning.

Are they granny panties diaper style?

Just plain cute in his big drawers!

***We were successful! Dean Thomas woke up with a dry belly and bed but one VERY full diaper. No baths or bed changes this morning – YAY!!!!

Shopping & Showering in Granbury

Posted in Dean Thomas, Friends, Ft. Worth Life, Work events at 10:19 am by winz

My co-worker Leslie is getting married and to celebrate this exciting event the counseling department hosted a shower. I use the term “hosted a shower” loosely because it was more like an opportunity for everyone to get out of town and have fun for the weekend. On Saturday morning we met at CHHS and drove to Lake Granbury about an hour South West of Fort Worth. Dean and I paired up with Miranda and her 2 month old son Gavin for the trip. The babies were wonderful and slept the entire drive which provided an hour of good mom-to-mom conversation for Miranda and I. It was so nice to sit and chat with another new mom.

We were fortunate enough to have a WONDERFUL lake house available to us thanks to Glenda. The house provided 5 star accommodations with amazing views of the lake. We settled in to the house and then headed to the historical district of Granbury for lunch and shopping. At the brides request we dined at Babe’s. Now, if you haven’t been to Babes it’s a must. They pride themselves in their delicious fried chicken and amazingly great sides. I love their sweet corn and the yummy dressing they put on their salad. Once we were stuffed we walked off a few of our calories shopping the square. I managed to score a few gifts and had a great time taking in the sights and sales of Granbury.

Glenda had arranged for us to have a wine tasting at D’Vine Wine. They offered a peach chardonnay as the first wine we tasted. It was yummy, but so sweet it made the following reds seem extremely dry and bitter. I think the Peach belonged more in the dessert category. But, it was very refreshing on a hot spring day. After shopping a bit longer we headed back to the house for Leslie’s shower.

Leslie was showered with many wonderful gifts. It was nice to see some of the items she had registered for and see her excitement as she enjoys every moment of wedding bliss! Dean loved the shower part as well. He flirted, and flirted and then flirted some more. The boy is a ladies man! As you can see by the pictures he has many of the women wooed by the end of the day. After the shower we watched the sunset from the porch and enjoyed a very relaxing evening. Dean and Gavin finally passed out and slept the entire way home.

The trip was just what I needed before heading into spring testing season. We have TAKS this coming week followed by 2 glorious weeks of AP testing. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle life again. Best wishes Leslie. I know Wayne is going to love seeing all your new loot!
