3 Months is a Hard Age

Posted in Dean Thomas at 8:22 am by winz

Once Dean turned three months old he decided to try his hand at being sick. First he developed an upper respiratory and ear infection. We began antibiotics for 10 days and hoped for the best. On the 10th day Dean had a rough time. He cried…well, screamed, and just couldn’t get comfortable. His crying fit was a bit unnerving for me since he doesn’t every really cry (we’re lucky, I know).

After consulting Grandmother through a long drawn out Skype session (where she could see Dean cry) we determined a call to the doctor was in order for our little man. We thought it was that pesky ear infection coming back to haunt Dean and expected to get another round of drugs for the little guy. But, after a long appointment the doctor shared with Matt that Dean had bronchiolitis! Our poor little guy was really sick! Dean was immediately introduced to breathing treatments in order to help clear his bronchial tubes.

Breathing treatments…yuck! Dean was not a fan of the treatments the first few times we administered them. It is rather difficult to hold a screaming, crying, squirming 3 month old and the breathing mask over his face a the same time. Matt and I felt like we were torturing our beloved boy even though we knew it was for his own good. Thankfully, Dean has adjusted to the treatments, I think it is because we have allowed him to have his pacifier during the treatments. It makes him much happier which makes mom and dad much happier too!

Only a few more days of treatments to go. Hopefully Dean will find his fourth month of life a little easier. We certainly hope so!

Just a Glimpse

This past weekend we went to Dallas to visit my college roommate Roxane. We had a great time catching up. Dean managed to entertain us while we helped Roxane decorate her apartment.

Along with the pictures here is a video with a glimpse of our little man. We are constantly amazed, he’s doing something new everyday. This past weekend he started talking nonstop – in true Hopkins nature. We were finally able to capture a little bit of chatter on film.

TCA Conference 2009

I have successfully made it through 3 days without my baby. The counseling team at CHHS recently traveled to Austin for the annual Texas Counseling Association Secondary School Counselors Conference. We had a fantastic time learning, refreshing, and remembering why we chose this career path. I came home motivated to be a better counselor, to really make a difference in the lives of my students…only to have reality set in the minute we returned to Colleyville. School counselors are busy folks! But, I’m still motivated to make a difference. So, here’s to opportunities to get away, learn something new, bond with your coworkers, and make a difference in the life of a child!

Oh back to the baby part – I am proud to say that I was able to focus on my sessions and not think about Dean every minute, just every other! I actually was perfectly comfortable knowing that he was home in the loving arms of his Honey and that she was equally happy to have him in hers. Thank you Carla for coming up and spending 4 days with us, you are one of Dean’s 2 favorite grandmothers!

Blogging Short: Little dude can drop some bombs!

How does is it possible that a tiny little boy with such a small rear end can produce farts/poops of such amazing magnitude and duration? Seriously… His butt his tiny! Those sounds rival mine when I’m at my best. Unbelievable! That’s our little stinker.

Seven Sweet Years

Posted in Family Events, Holidays, Uncategorized at 5:51 pm by winz

On Valentine’s day Matt and I celebrated seven years together. I like to say it’s the day Matt came to his senses and realized I was the girl for him! Seven years ago Matt and I shared a picnic lunch and he asked me to be his girlfriend! It was a very sweet long awaited moment. I’m thrilled to say that after seven years, a long distance relationship, marriage, a long distance marriage, several moves, and baby I am more in love that ever before.

This Valentine’s day we celebrated in a laid back fashion. I didn’t want to dress up and have a fancy dinner so we went for fun and casual. We didn’t make reservations for dinner and went where our tummies lead us. After 2 strike outs our third restaurant was a hit. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Cantina Laredo. The Cantina is authentic Mexican cusine and simply fantastic. Our meal also came with margaritas, one pomegranate and the other a sunrise. Both margaritas were new to me but will soon become frequent fliers in my book. After dinner we had plans to meet up with some friends at a piano bar near our restaurant but once we arrived we saw that Valentine’s must be the night for dueling pianos because the place was packed! We opted for some fun and games at another bar in town and had a great time.

Dean had a special Valentine’s day treat too. His grandmother “Honey” came in to visit. They shared a smooch filled night at home while Matt and I were out.

It was so nice to have a night out with my honey. It’s always nice to spend some time reflecting on our relationship and appreciating how far we have come.
