Not only is our little boy growing but so is our puppy. Matt came home this past weekend with Jiff’s “Big Dog” collar. It was sad to see his little puppy collar go but it is nice to know that with each new collar we get further away from the puppy stage.
Speaking of puppy…Jiff has been a GREAT well behaved puppy until last weekend. I woke at 6:30 AM on Sunday to a banging noise. As I ventured into the living room I saw a large dark spot on the carpet but I couldn’t make out what it was. Of course I had a sinking feeling that Jiff had been up to something mischievous. It turned out that during the night he had decided to EAT one of our poinsettia plants. After dragging it into the living room he dumped the plant, shook off the dirt and chewed it up! There was dirt all over the living room, chewed up leaves and stems, as well as the pot. Thankfully he was not poisoned by the plant but he did find himself sleeping in the kennel for the rest of the morning. I guess Jiff was reminding us that he needed some attention. We are working harder at balancing our time between Jiff and Dean.
Here’s a shot I snapped half way through the clean up. For some reason I just wasn’t thinking about capturing the moment when it first happened!
Today Dean and I went to visit Dr. McCoy for his 2 month check up. Dean had a great visit with the doctor. He weighed in at 11 pounds 14 ounces which places him in the 50% and he measured 24.5 inches long which places him in the 90%. We have a tall, thin baby, I know he doesn’t get those genes from me but I’m thankful that he’s on the tall side!
In addition to these stats they said Dean was very strong and wouldn’t be surprised if he started rolling over soon. I guess we better quit laying him on the couch with out a safety net. She also said that she thought Dean was going to be quite the talker due to the way he modulates his cry. We didn’t have to go to the doctor for her to tell me that the spawn of Matt and Lindsey Hopkins would be a talker. I’m sure we all could have guessed that! On the down side she did say that Dean would need to gain 4 or 5 pounds before he would be sleeping through the night. Geez, here’s where the benefit of a bigger baby is a bonus. I’m now researching ways to help him gain that 4 pounds pronto! I enjoy our time in the middle of the night but am definitely looking forward to 8 straight hours.
The visit ended with 2 shots. Dean did a terrific job handling the simultaneous sticks. He only cried for a moment and is now passed out next to me on the couch (sans safety net). Dean is doing new things every day. We look forward to sharing all of our experiences with you!
This past weekend Matt, Dean and I headed down to Houston. We had a wonderful weekend spending time with family.
On Saturday we visited Dean’s Great Grands on the Hopkins side, and then traveled to Katy for Adam and Genie’s “house warming” party. It was a ton of fun. We enjoyed getting to see Adam and Genie’s new house and spending the evening with Genie’s family.
On Sunday we hung with my family for a big meal and some semi-final NFL action. Matt and I even managed to sneak in a date to the movies while Dean stayed with Grandmother and Papa.
Monday brought an opportunity for Dean to meet Griffin while Matt and I caught up with our friend Kim. It was nice for us to have another parent to share stories, ask questions and gain insight from.
After a fun weekend in Humble we stopped of at Dean’s other great grands on the way home. The weekend was quick but so much fun. We are looking forward to a longer trip over spring break. Until Then!
I am pleased to say that I have survived my first semester as a high school counselor. I LOVE working at CHHS and have a terrific team of people who support me and worked tirelessly supporting my students while I was on maternity leave.
Last week things were a little stressful in the counseling office as we prepared for the spring semester, in efforts to provide some stress relief I picked Dean up from school early and brought him to the school. He loved seeing all my friends and they appreciated the stress relief, it was a win-win situation!
Our little Dean celebrated his 2 month birthday today. I know I always say I can’t believe how fast time is flying but really…I can’t believe how fast time is flying. In the past month Dean has been on his first road trip to Houston, met many family members and friends, began cooing and smiling, celebrated his first Christmas, rang in the New Year, started school, grew out of newborn clothes and made mommy and daddy fall even more in love with him! We treasure every moment we have with Dean and look forward to sharing his adventures of month 3 with you. Until then!
Remember what I looked like 1 month ago?
Here are some new 2 month pics
And a little video for my fan club (it’s long but I know the fam will love it).
