After church today Matt and I made a stop by Central Market. I was thrilled to be going to the grocery and enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the store taking in all the sights and sounds and selecting a few special treats…like some really great salsa! Well, our trip must have lasted a little too long because when we went to put Dean back in the car he got upset. I’m not taking a little upset he was down right angry! It was time for him to eat and I had lost track of time thanks to my infatuation with grocery shopping. Rather than make the drive home with a screaming child we decided to find a nice, quiet part of the parking lot in which to feed Dean. All was well once Dean started eating and Matt and I enjoyed a few moments of nice conversation and gelato.
After Dean finished eating my plan was to put him back in the car seat and change his diaper when we got home. Plans changed! I was holding D on my shoulder to burp him and had my arm under his bum supporting him when he pooped. He had decided to take care of BIG business right then and there. Immediately I got a whiff of Deans homemade gift and thought it smelled especially strong. I moved my hand on to his back to see if it had leaked out of his diaper and to my horror it had! But we aren’t talking just a little leak, we are talking massive explosion! Dean had poop all over his outfit, on his blanket and I had it on my shirt. Our quiet post-church trip to Central Market turned into a parking lot pooping party! I didn’t have an extra outfit in the diaper bag so poor Dean had to ride hope pantless!
Matt and I both found the moment quite hilarious, so much so we took pictures! I hope you enjoy our shatty moment as much as we did!

After school today Dean was settled in his boppy for his evening nap. I was sitting next to him and working on the computer when I started hearing a smacking sound. I knew the pacifier had fallen out but I assumed he was asleep since he didn’t cry. Well, it turned out Dean was finding other ways to soothe himself, with his thumb! He hasn’t mastered the art of thumb sucking yet but was certainly trying to get a good grip.
I got this on it’s way out but I think his face says it all!
Yesterday I had a great and unexpected day off school. On Tuesday night the weather started to get bad and the temps were expected to drop into the upper teens all while it was raining. Well, as you know cold + rain often = ice! School was released early on Tuesday and cancelled on Wednesday to accommodate the nasty weather. Dean and I enjoyed spending the day at home.
While we were home a few weeks ago my sister-in-law, Amanda, suggested that we start putting Dean in the Bumbo seat. He has really been working on holding his head up and she thought this would be a great alternative to tummy time. Dean loved the Bumbo! I think he enjoys being able to sit up and take in his surroundings. Moreover, I think he likes being able to interact with Matt and I from a new angle.
Dean also caught his first cold! His friends at the ECDC are go generous they wanted to share their sniffles. Dean has been such a trooper despite Matt and I working to master the art of the suction bulb. It’s amazing the number of things that cease to gross you out once you become a parent. For some reason I’m perfectly ok with touching the mucus that comes from his nose and picking his boogers, but I won’t do that for anyone else!
On a side note: A personal first for me. I showed up to work earlier this week with baby poop on my hand. I thought I had washed them but I guess I missed a spot that needed some scrubbing! I must have “worn” it for a few hours before noticing the bright yellow streak on my finger! Yeah…SO GROSS and on a whole different level from snot. My personal experiences are great birth control for many of the teens I work with.
