Under pressure

Posted in Baby Hopkins at 6:46 pm by winz

Our mission this weekend was to buy a crib. Matt and I have spent time looking for Baby Hops bed but hadn’t found the right one until yesterday. With 12 weeks to go Matt and I began to feel the pressure of making sure BH had a bed, since some cribs could take up to 12 weeks to order, and thought we should get hopping (no pun intended). I am very proud of our efforts and the fact that we managed to make our selection by the second store. They had the crib in stock, we were able to bring it home and can now breathe a sigh of relief that one more thing is accomplished on our list.

Next on our list registering…at the hospital, and for classes…whew, we have a lot to do before our little guy/gal comes to meet us. I toured the hospital during my last doctors visit and received the paperwork to register at the hospital, I will admit I was close to freaking out but didn’t. I really can’t believe we are already to the 3rd trimester, 26 weeks ago this day seemed so far away! The doctor gave me a great report but did mention that I shouldn’t expect to deliver a 7 pound baby. Evidently BH is on the big side and is something he’ll be monitoring during the upcoming visits. I’ll be anxious to see how much I grow before my next appointment in 3 weeks! I also learned that I get to go back on the yucky iron pills. Despite my best eating efforts I haven’t been able to keep enough iron in my blood to accommodate both the baby and I, oh well…I gave it my best shot, what do you do? At least BH and I will have plenty of energy for this last stretch of our race. Until Then!

It’s a Boy!!!

Matt and I were treated with a visit from his brother, Adam and Sister-in-law, Genie. They made the trek to Ft. Worth for a weekend of fun and family. A&G arrived late on Friday night and after sleeping in on Saturday morning we set out for Allen, TX. Allen is north of Dallas and was the home of the newest member of our family, Jiff.

Matt has longed for his own “man’s best friend” since we married. He has scouted our SPCA pages, stared longingly at others who are luckily enough to have a dog and quietly waited for his day. An opportunity became available for us to adopt a puppy earlier this month and Matt couldn’t resist. Jiff is a 8 week old Australian heeler. I’ll admit at first I was less than thrilled with the idea of bringing something else new into our ever changing family but I have grown to like the little guy and am glad that Matt has a new friend and I have a cuddle buddy, at least he’ll lick my super pudgy feet when I come home after a long day.

Adam, Genie, and Gunner were here to welcome Jiff into our family. I’m thankful that they were, Gunner is 3 years old but Adam and Genie were a huge asset in helping us get our house puppy proof. I’m thankful for all of their trips and tricks. On Saturday evening we went to the Ranger’s game and had a great time. It started raining at during the 7th inning and we managed to hang out until the 8th. It was a great game and fun to experience the ballpark with them.

Sunday lent itself to great Mexican food and fun at Pets Mart. We took Jiff and Gunner with us and bought the puppy essentials. We also had fun dressing Jiff up in a few Halloween costumes!

Matt and I were sad to see Adam and Genie leave on Sunday and can’t wait for the next time the visit. We were joking that the baby will probably be here when they come next, won’t that be exciting!!!

An excuse for a trip home

Posted in Family Events at 6:21 pm by winz

Matt and I made our first trip home from Ft. Worth to visit our family. The trip wasn’t all pleasure but there was plenty of fun. Layne and Amanda moved in to their new home and our help was enlisted for moving and babysitting purposes. I had a great time hanging out with Morgan, Logan, Emma and Lesley while Matt worked hard moving things into the new house. I don’t know if I’ll be asked to babysit again but we sure had fun. In lieu of naps I opted for taking the kids to the new target in Atascocita it was great fun for me but I’m sure their parents were less than thrilled when I returned tired, cranky babies.

In addition to helping my family move we had some fun with Matt’s. Adam, Genie, Ronny, Carla, Matt and I all went to dinner and a movie on Saturday evening. The boys took in the action thriller The Dark Night while the girls opted for something brighter, Mama Mia. It was fun spending time with Matt’s family and relaxing after a day of “hard work”.

My first Canton Trip!

Posted in Ft. Worth Life at 5:48 pm by winz

I have made my first trip to Canton and let me tell you I’m hooked! Two of the counselors I work with called and invited me to go with them on a day long adventure. I had a wonderful time getting to know the counselors that I would be working with, Robin and Martha had been at CHHS for several years and know the school culture well, as well as taking in the hugeness of Canton’s First Monday. I honestly can say that I may never have to go to the Nutcracker Market again; I have found a new home for my holiday shopping! I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it back to Canton before the baby is born but I am looking forward to my next trip.
