When Matt came home from work today he was toting a package which the mailman had surprisingly delivered to our house. We NEVER get packages so it was very exciting for both of us. I immediately recognized the Piedmont address and knew that my friend Chris Free had sent us a treat. Chris was my wonderful paraeducator while at PHS and a terrific asset during my time in Cali. Chris, a mother of three boys, helped me adjust not only to school but to life away from my family.
The package from Chris was a treasure chest of gifts for Baby Hop. Matt and I had such a great time unwrapping the carefully wrapped packages she lovingly sent to us. Included in the package were a sweet little t-shirt perfect for BH to wear next summer, an awesome pint sized rattle complete with a picture of a frog, and a BEAUTIFUL hand knitted blanket. The blanket was the big treat; while we worked together I watched Chris knit many sets of booties and hats for all the new babies in her life. Matt and I are so touched that she knitted something for our baby. I can’t wait to wrap him/her up in it this winter.
Thanks Chris for all the wonderful gifts. Matt and I love them all and can’t wait to see you on the west coast on our next trip.
Saturday night Matt and I enjoyed spending the evening with my best friend Courtney and her husband Craig. Matt and I had a blast cooking dinner for them and enjoyed hearing about their San Francisco honeymoon. We loved seeing pictures of places we have visited so many times and hearing how much they loved the same sights. Matt and I also had the joy of introducing C & C to the Wii! We played a great game of bowling – which I won, tennis and boxing. We had a great time with Craig and Court and look forward to getting together with them again. I’m so glad we are finally living in the same city!
Pregnancy makes you do crazy things! I ordinarily despise spaghetti, I’d rather skip a meal than sit down to a plate of noodles covered in meat sauce BUT for some reason I had a craving for it last week! I know…I was shocked to think that I was actually going to cook and eat a spaghetti dinner. I was super proud of myself for making the meal, I even managed to hide squash and zucchini in the sauce and gave myself props for the veggie addition! Matt was in heaven and graciously at his plate full at dinner and then finished the leftovers for lunch the following day. I’m not sure when spaghetti will end up on the menu at the Hopkins house again, I certainly chalk the dinner desires up to Baby Hop.
Baby Hop may not have a bed, clothes or diapers yet but rest assured this educators child has a school! Matt and I committed last Friday to touring day care after day care in efforts to find the best child care facility for our baby. After hours of listening to directors sell us on their school, hearing about education plans for 6 weeks olds (huh – do they have TEKS for them), and calculating tuition in our head we were exhausted but felt great about our options. We’ve spent this week thinking, praying and talking about BH’s school and finally decided last night so enroll BH in KidzU, the child care facility associated with Grapevine Colleyville ISD. There are many benefits to this facility one being it’s right next door to my school…I can go check on Baby Hop any time I want, and feed him/her lunch and it’s close enough for Matt to drop him/her off on his way to work! I am sure we won’t be as excited about taking BH to school once he/she isn’t attached to me but I feel good about our choice now. Matt and I have successfully accomplished one of our first parenting tasks! One down and about a billion x 10 to go, for some reason I don’t think they will all be this easy. Until Then!
Matt and I had our first visit with Dr. White today. We were very pleased with the visit and like the doc and his nurses a lot! The doctor said everything is growing great and that Baby Hop appears to be right on schedule. BH must really like the doctor too, when Dr. White went to check its heartbeat he/she welcomed him with a great big kick. This astounded the doctor, he was amazed with the amount BH was moving and he guessed it’s a boy! The doc may have years of experience but, I know many a hyper girls too so I’m not buying blue clothes yet! I also think my morning cup of joe may have had something to do with those kicks????
We had a great conversation with Dr. White about CHHS. It turns out his daughter attends the school. He highly encouraged us to attend the football games in the fall – we can’t wait! Go Panthers! At least we know if I go into labor at a game in November the doc will be right there!
I can’t believe that I only have 1 more monthly appointment and then I change to every 2 weeks! Time is flying so fast. This pregnancy has been an incredible experience thus far, I can’t even begin to imagine all the great things BH will bring into our lives once he/she is here! I just wish Matt could experience 1/2 of what I get to (the good stuff I mean)! Until then!
