What do you get when you mix 5 girls, beautiful weather, and a beach house? A great weekend out of town! Four of my great grad school friends and I headed out Friday afternoon for a weekend of fun and sun on Galveston Island. The weekend was full of laughter, memories and relaxation. We rented a beautiful beach house; I think it might have been in Coastal Living magazine! Each night we enjoyed eating out in Galveston and had a great time lying out on the beach Saturday afternoon. The love bugs were out in full force but the swarming didn’t stop us from claiming lounge chairs and working on our tans. It was such a treat to get to relax and do nothing. Some highlights of the trip were: reliving the 80s through the Pac-Man video game, Jenn almost hitting a man while driving home Saturday night, daring Trish to steal a shrimp which should have resulted in some skinny dipping, and rescuing the next door neighbors from their balcony lockout by throwing knives at them! Sounds like quite a weekend huh? I am so thankful for the friendships I made with these girls. I know that my school experience wouldn’t have been half as much fun without them! I look forward to the trip again next year! Until then.
Matt and I finally got to have an overnight guest in our apartment. Mandi, a dear family friend of ours, came and stayed the night while her mother was away. Unfortunately, it was a school night so we didn’t get too wild but we did manage to have a nice time. We enjoyed making low fat sundaes for our Grey’s Anatomy watching party – I had missed the week before and needed to catch up! I enjoyed snuggling up on the couch to drool over the latest episode with another girl. I used to be able to talk Matt into watching it with me but a girl is SO much better! After the show it was time to get ready for bed, Monday’s are pretty rough days at school. We all needed our beauty sleep. Mandi was blessed with a bed time pal while she slept, Aggie decided that she would rather snuggle up with our house guest for the night than sleep with Matt and I. Mandi learned the hard way just how loud a cat can purr! I think overall we were successful hosts for the evening and brought Mandi to school the next morning unharmed. She even wants to come back for another night! Wow! We must be good!
The showers are over, now on to the wedding! Adam and Genie’s final shower was an awesome couples Fiesta! Matt and I had a great time eating Mexican food and getting to know more of Adam and Genie’s friends. Quite a few members of the wedding party were in attendance, it was nice to get to know them before the big weekend. Adam and Genie received some great gifts. I think they almost have everything they need for a great “Happily Ever After”. The wedding countdown is on and we can’t wait for the big day. I guarantee there will be plenty of pictures to share! Until then!
Praise the Lord! Comps are over! My graduate school comprehensive exams were 13 cumulative exams over each course I have taken while pursuing my counseling degree. It doesn’t sound so bad but also know that I took my first class in the spring of 2005…that’s a long time to remember some little details! It turned out the exams themselves were not that bad but preparing for them almost sent me to the loony bin! There was an enormous stack of information to review, remember, and learn (remember it’s been 3 years). Since I didn’t know exactly what would be on the test I felt the need to remember it all and studied for several weeks. When exam day finally arrived I was so ready for the test to be over I couldn’t wait to start. I had 4 hours to complete the exam, I managed to use all but 15 minutes of my time. I think I spent most of it praying for Divine Intervention and searching for answers I didn’t know. After the exam my grandparents took me out for a celebration dinner. I was in much need of some good Mexican food to re-energize before my drive back to Houston. God is so good and he answered prayers – I was elated when I got the email that I passed. Whew! Huge thanks to my pal Jennifer who lent me her old comps binder (the holy grail of the exam) to study for the test. I really would have been a nut case with out it. And another thanks to all of you prayer warriors out there. Now I can see graduation on the horizon. I’m looking forward to many study free days in my future.
